Friends are an important part of Seeker's Notes: Mysteries of Darkwood. Although it is possible to advance very far in game, completing all available Quests and gathering every item you need without Friends, you can advance faster with a little help from your Friends, and many would argue that interacting with their Friends is one of their favourite parts of the game.

There are a number of ways to Add Friends to your Game, using the Friends Window.

Accessing Friends Sections Edit

The bottom of the Darkwood Town Map allows you to access many important areas of the game. There are 7 bubbles located at the bottom of the map, each of which opens up a different area.

The Friends icon (7) is the bubble on the right hand side of the map. Tapping on the Friends icon (7) will bring up three options in the form of three sub-bubbles. Tapping the Friends Icon a second time will hide the three sub-bubbles again. The Friends Window is accessed by pressing the sub-bubble with the image of two people (7B).

The Friends Window Edit

The second sub-bubble (B) brings up the Friends Window. There are three tabs in the Friends Window:

  • Friends - lists your current friends
  • Invite - displays your Friend code; allows you to enter the Friend code of another player; allows you to add a Friend through Facebook; and gives the option to invite 6 random players to be Friends every 8 hours.
  • Waiting - displays players you have invited to become Friends with but who have not accepted your invite yet and players who have invited you to become Friends but are waiting for you to accept their invitation.

Current Friends - the 'Friends' tab Edit

The 'Friends' tab is the default open tab when you open the Friends Window. Here your current Friends are listed.

Friends List favourites

Friends list (names removed). Favourite friends are listed first, in order of level. Friends who have connected their game to Facebook have a blue box in their entry displaying the name attached to that Facebook account (names removed).

Each Friend's entry initially contains some basic information about the Friend but can be used to view more detailed information.

The Friend's name is listed at the top of their entry. Beneath this, in the centre of the box, the Friend's Game Level and Reputation Level is given. If the Friend has connected their game to a Facebook account, then the name of that Facebook account will be displayed above their Game level in a blue box.

The Friend's Avatar is displayed in the centre of the box, next to the Game and Reputation levels. Each Avatar shows the symbol for the Friend's Talent in the bottom left corner and a 'favourite star' slot in the top right corner. If the Friend is marked as a Favourite friend, the favourite star will be gold with a red background. If not, the star and background will both be grey.

Friends info box

A Friend's information box (name removed). The friend has the Joker Talent, represented by a green lightning bolt on the bottom left of their Avatar. The friend is currently marked as a Favourite to bring them to the front of the Friends list, so the Favourite star in the top right of their Avatar is coloured.

Tapping anywhere on the Avatar will bring up a detailed information box about that friend. This information box contains extra information about the player's game stats including how many Friends they have; how many Collections they have combined; how much Energy they currently have and how much their maximum Energy is; how many Quests they have completed and how many Puzzles they have won in total.

The Friend's Avatar in the information box also shows their Talent symbol and 'Favourite star', but here you can interact with them.

Tapping on the Talent symbol will bring up a description of what that Talent does. Tapping on the favourite star will activate it or deactivate it if it is already active. This will add that Friend to your Favourite list, which means that they will be listed at the start of your Friends list both in the Friends list window and in the list of Friends that appears at the bottom of the screen when you are visiting a friend. If multiple friends are listed as Favourites, then they will appear at the beginning of your Friends list in the order of their game level, from highest to lowest.

The main entry for the Friend in the Friends List contains two buttons - 'Hire' and 'Visit'. Pressing Hire will hire that Friend for the next play of a Location or a Puzzle game. This will give you the benefit of their Talent for one play. Their entry will be highlighted for the duration of the time they are hired. You can only Hire each friend once per day, after which the 'Hire' button will become an 'Energize' button. Pressing this will give you the option of paying with Rubies to enable another Hire of that friend (see Using Darkwood Town Map to Hire Friends section).

Hint: If you Hire a friend and then fail the next play of a Location or Puzzle, the Hire will not be used. You can get still the benefit of the Hire during your next attempt.

Pressing Visit will bring you to your friends Darkwood Town map. Here you will see their unlocked Locations and Puzzles as well as their Trophy levels. You may receive a daily bonus of extra experience points and coins for visiting some friends. The number of Friends you can receive a Daily Bonus for is equal to your current Reputation level. For each friend you visit, you will be able to help them a certain number of times by charging their Locations and Puzzles. By charging your Friend's Locations and Puzzles you will give them the benefit of your Talent for the next play of that Location or Puzzle (unless your charge is over-written by another of their friends visiting later). You cannot charge Trophies or Crafting Locations (Fortune Teller; Blacksmith; Inventor). For each Location of Puzzle you charge, you will receive a reputation point and some experience points, and coins. You may also receive a random Collection item. The number of charges you are allowed per friend is dependent on your current Reputation level.

As you visit your Friend's map, the Townspeople and Monsters they have unlocked in their game will also be floating about their maps. You can interact with these Townspeople (to Trade for items) and Monsters (to banish for items) even if you have not unlocked them in your game yet. You will receive the reward if you Trade with a Friend's Towns-person or Banish a Friend's Monster. Each Trade or Banish will count as one of your charges for that friend for that day.

Inviting Friends - the 'Invite' Tab Edit

Friends Invite tab

The Invite tab shows your Friend Code, and allows you to Invite other players to be friends through their codes; through Facebook; or through a list of 6 randomly generated players that refreshes every 8 hours.

The Second Tab in the Friends List is the Invite Tab. The top left box in the Invite tab, called 'Invitation Code' gives your Friend Code. You can give this to other people so that they can invite you to be friends in the game. This code is permanent and will not change. This code is also your unique user ID number, and is used to identify your game to the game servers and the game developers. You should quote this code when ever you are contacting the game's Support.

You can also invite other players from the Invite Tab. There are three ways to do this. You can add a Friend code supplied to you by another player by pressing 'Enter' in the top middle box 'Invitation from a friend'. A keyboard will come up allowing you to enter their code. If the code is correct, the player will be added to your Waiting tab until they accept or decline your invitation to become a friend.

You can also post your code to Facebook by pressing 'Invite' in either the 'Invitation Code' box or the 'Facebook' box. This will allow you to request your Facebook friends to invite you in their games.

The bottom three boxes contain random players generated for you to invite as friends. Then they will appear in your Waiting Tab and you will have the choice of accepting or declining their friend invitation. You are allowed to invite 6 random friends every 8 hours. You can view the random players detailed game information by tapping on their Avatars. You can also visit their Darkwood Town maps by pressing the 'Visit' button, but you will not be able to charge their boards while you visit them as you are not yet Friends with them. You can invite the random player to become game Friends by pressing the 'Add' button. They will then go to your Waiting Tab until they either accept or decline your invitation.

Note: all players are included in the pool that the Random list is generated from. This includes people who have stopped playing the game. If you do not get a response from a Random player you have invited, it is possible that they have not seen your invitation since they simply are not playing the game anymore.

Accepting Friend Requests - the 'Waiting' tab Edit

The Final tab in the Friends List Window is the Waiting Tab. The waiting tab is the Friends waiting room. Players you invite to become Friends, and players who invite you will all stop in the 'Waiting' tab before the player is added to your Friends List. An invitation must be accepted by the invitee before the player will move from a 'Waiting' tab to a 'Friends' tab.

The 'Waiting' tab is where all players you invite to become friends go while you wait for them to either accept or decline your Friend invitation. You cannot interact with people you have invited while they are in your Waiting Tab. If they accept your invitation they will automatically be added to your Friends List the next time you connect to the game's servers. If they decline your invitation they will simply disappear from the Waiting Tab, you will not be notified.

If someone else invites you to become game friends, they will also appear in your Friends list. However, in this case you will be the one with options to Accept or Decline the invitation. If you Accept the invitation, the Friend will automatically be added to your Friends list. If you Decline the invitation, the player will disappear from your Waiting Tab (and you from theirs). They will not be notified.

Adding Friends by Code Edit

Below are basic instructions on adding new Friends using the Code system in the game:

Open the Friends Window by tapping on the Friends bubble icon on your Darkwood Town Map and then tapping on the middle sub-bubble (image of two people).

Friends Invite tab

The Invite tab

Go to the Invite tab - the middle tab in the Friends Window by tapping the blue 'Invite' icon at the top centre of the Friends Window.

Using Your Own CodeEdit

To get your own code, just look at the first box in the Invite tab called 'Invitation code' (top left box). This contains a 10 character code, which is your permanent invite code for the game.

Give this code to potential new Friends, so that they can add you to their games. They will need to open the 'Invite' tab of their games and type in your code in the 'Invitation from a Friend' box.

Once your potential new Friends has entered your code into their games, an invitation will automatically be sent to your game. They will see an entry in their 'Waiting' tab that shows your game details, indicating that they have successfully sent the invitation. Your potential new Friend will appear in the 'Waiting' tab of your Friends Window the next time you access the games servers (when the invitation is sent to your game).

The potential new Friends entry in the 'Waiting' tab will show the players game name; avatar; experience level and reputation level.

Add by code invitee

SNwikia sent their Friend Code to their best friend, who used it to invite SNwiki to become game friends. Since SNwikia is the invitee, they have the 'accept' and 'decline' options for their best friend in their 'Waiting' tab

Since you are the invitee (they used your code to send invitation), it is up to you to either Accept or Decline the invitation. At the bottom of their entry will be a green 'Accept' and a red 'Decline' button.

If you press the Accept button, and accept the invitation, the Friend will automatically be added to your Friends list. Their entry will automatically disappear from your 'Waiting' tab and will automatically appear in your 'Friends' tab. The next time your Friend accesses the game servers in their game, you will automatically move from their 'Waiting' tab to their 'Friends' tab, they will not have to press anything to make that happen.

If you press the Decline button, or press the red 'x' in the top right corner of their entry then you reject the invitation. The player will disappear from your Waiting Tab (and you from theirs). They will not be notified of the rejection. They will not go to your 'Friends' tab.

Hint: Your Friend Code is the same as your Support ID for the game. If you are having difficulty using your Friend Code to gain new friends in the game, it may be that you are not giving the correct code to other players due to difficulty in reading some characters in the game's font. You can use the support link in the settings box to see your support ID using the native iOS font in the automatically generated email the support link creates. This may be easier to read than the game font, and help you tell certain numbers and letters apart. For example the game's font displays the letter 'L' and the number '1' very similarly, but they are easily distinguished in the native iOS font in the automatically generated email. To access the support link, press the Gear icon on the top center of your Darkwood Town Map (next to your Energy meter) to open the Settings Box. In the bottom right of the setting box tap on the blue 'Contact Support' link. This will open your mail and automatically create an email to the game's developers with all your game details, including your Support ID.

Using Other Player's CodesEdit

If you have been given a Friend Code by another player, you can use it to invite them to become game Friends.

In the 'Invite' tab of the Friends Window, go to the 'Invitation from a Friend' box (top middle) and tap on 'Enter'. A box titled 'Invitation from a Friend' will appear with a blank line and a green accept button.

A keyboard will appear and you will be able to type in the Code into the blank line. The codes are not case-sensitive, so you can use all upper case or all lower case if you like. Once you have typed in the 10-character code correctly, then press the green accept button.

A new entry will appear in your 'Waiting' tab of the Friends Window for the player. An entry for you will appear in the other player's 'Waiting' tab of their Friends Window the next time they access the games servers (when the invitation is sent to their game).

The potential new Friends entry in the 'Waiting' tab will show the players game name; avatar; experience level and reputation level.

Add by code inviter

Since SNwikia's friend sent the invite (using SNwikia's code) they cannot accept or decline the invitation from their 'Waiting' tab. They must wait for SNwikia to accept the invitation

Since you are the inviter (you used their code to send invitation), it is up to the other player to either Accept or Decline the invitation. This means you will not see the 'Accept' or 'Decline' buttons underneath the players entry in your 'Waiting' tab. They will, however, see those options under your entry in their 'Waiting' tab. You cannot become Friends with the other player until they go to their 'Waiting' tab and accept your invitation. Until they do, they will remain in your 'Waiting' tab.

If they press the Accept button, and accept the invitation, you will automatically be added to their Friends list. Your entry will automatically disappear from their 'Waiting' tab and will automatically appear in their 'Friends' tab. The next time you access the game servers in your game, their entry will automatically move from your 'Waiting' tab to your 'Friends' tab, you will not have to press anything to make that happen.

If they press the Decline button, or press the red 'x' in the top right corner of your entry then they decline the invitation. You will disappear from their Waiting Tab (and them from yours). You will not be notified of the rejection. They will not go to your 'Friends' tab.

Hint: Although you cannot accept an invitation that you have sent, you can rescind the invitation by pressing the red 'x' in the top right corner of the Player's entry in your Friends tab. This will remove them from your 'Waiting' tab and will also remove you from their 'Waiting' tab the next time they connect to the games servers. This can be useful if you have invited a player, but they have not accepted (or declined) your invitation for a long time and you want to remove that entry from your 'Waiting' tab

Adding Friends Through Random Invite System Edit

Below are basic instructions on adding new Friends using the Random Invite system in the game:

Open the Friends Window by tapping on the Friends bubble icon on your Darkwood Town Map and then tapping on the middle sub-bubble (image of two people).

Friends Invite tab

The Invite tab shows your Friend Code, and allows you to Invite other players to be friends through their codes; through Facebook; or through a list of 6 randomly generated players that refreshes every 8 hours.

Go to the Invite tab - the middle tab in the Friends Window by tapping the blue 'Invite' icon at the top centre of the Friends Window.

There will be information boxes for 3 random Players in the bottom row of the 'Invite' tab, and if you scroll to page 2, you will see a further 3 random Players.

You can get more information about these players by tapping on their Avatars to bring up an information box which contains players stats like number of Friends; Collections combined and Quests completed.

You can visit these random players to see their Darkwood Town Maps by tapping on the 'Visit' button. You will not be able to interact with their board like you could one of your Friends, but you will be able to see it.

To invite a Random Player to become game Friends, press the 'Add' button underneath their entry in your 'Invite' tab. They will be removed from the 'Invite' tab and an entry for them will appear in your 'Waiting' tab. After this it behaves just like if you have invited that player using their Friend code.

Since you are the inviter, you will not have the Accept/Decline options in your 'Waiting' tab. You must wait for the other player to accept your invitation from their 'Waiting' tab before they will appear on your Friends tab and you can start gifting/visiting them.

The list of 6 Random Players in the 'Invite' tab automatically refreshes every 8 hours. Any empty slots (from players you have invited) will be replaced with new players, and any uninvited random players will also be replaced with new random players. You can choose to refresh the list straight away at any time (rather than waiting the full 8 hours) by paying with Rubies using the green 'Find more Friends' button at the 'Invite' tab. This will cost 4 Rubies each time you do it.

Where to find new friends online using codes Edit

Below is just some of the online communities that facilitate the exchange of Friend codes for the Seeker's Notes: Mysteries of Darkwood game. This list is not meant to be exhaustive, but is a good starting point for new players who would like to increase their number of friends:
