Friends Icon on the Darkwood Town Map

The Friends Icon on the Darkwood Town Map

Accessing Friends Sections[]

The bottom of the Darkwood Town Map allows you to access many important areas of the game. There are 4 bubbles located at the bottom of the map, each of which opens up a different area.

The 'Friends' icon (labeled below in red as number 7) is the bubble on the right most side of the map. Tapping on the 'Friends' icon (4) will bring up three options in the form of three sub-bubbles. Tapping the Friends Icon a second time will hide the three sub-bubbles again.

Top 100 lists (A)[]

The first sub-bubble (A) brings up the Top100 list. The Top100 list ranks players in 6 different categories:

  • Top Experience (Star symbol) - the 100 players who have earned the most experience points. Each player's current experience points and game level are displayed.
  • Top Collections (Box symbol) - the 100 players who have combined the most collections. Collections combined more than once and Artifacts are included in the count. Each player's total combined collections and current game level are displayed.
  • Top Seekers (Magnifying glass symbol) - the 100 players who have completed the most quests. Each player's total completed quests and current game level are displayed.
  • Top Reputation (Bird/Dove symbol) - the 100 players who have collected the most Reputation points. Each player's total reputation points (note: this is reputation points not reputation level) and current game level are displayed.
  • Top Puzzles (Gear symbol) - the 100 players who have won the most puzzle games. This number is total puzzles won not largest winning streak. Each player's total puzzle wins and current game level is displayed.
  • Top Achievements (Trophy symbol) - the 100 payers who have completed the most Achievements. The total number of achievements, including non-Trophy achievements are included. Each player's Trophies are displayed.
Top 100 puzzles

Top 100 puzzles category (player names removed)

For each entry in every category of the Top 100, the players' name is listed on top of their entry, their rank is listed on the far left of the entry and their avatar is shown beside their rank. Tap on any player's rank to bring up an information box for that player which gives more details of their game stats.

At the top of this information box, the player's name is listed. Beneath this, the player's Avatar is shown, and in the bottom left hand side of their avatar a symbol will display indicating what that player's Talent is. Tap the Talent icon to display a description of what that Talent does. If the player has connected their game to Facebook, then the name attached to that Facebook account will also be displayed beneath their avatar. Beneath this a number of key game stats are displayed, including game level; reputation level; number of friends; total collections combined; current and maximum energy; total quests completed and total puzzles won.

Top 100 own stats

Using the Top 100 to see your own stats. The blue star in the bottom left corner indicates the Player's talent is 'Keeper', which increases experience points earned by 10% when Hired or when helping friends.

Press 'Find Me' at the bottom of any Top 100 category to bring up your entry on the Top 100 list for that category. If you have not broken into the top 100 players for that category you will be listed as number 101 and your stats for that category will be displayed. Note: you will always be listed as number 101, even if you are the 100th or millionth ranked player for that category. Looking at the stats for the 100th player for that category and comparing them to your own stats for that category will give you a better indication of how much you need to do to enter the Top 100.

Hint: Tapping on your own avatar in the Top 100 after pressing 'Find Me' will display your own information box, as other players see it. Your Talent icon will be displayed in the bottom left hand corner of your Avatar, and tapping on this will tell you what your Talent is and what benefit you give your friends when you visit them or they hire you.

Tapping the open box next to 'Only Friends' at the bottom of the Top 100 for any category will rank you and your friends for each category. Neither you nor your friends have to be in the Top 100 players for this feature to work, it is just an internal ranking of your friends list.

Friends List (B)[]

The second sub-bubble (B) brings up the Friends List Window. There are three tabs in the Friends List Window:

  • Friends - lists your current friends
  • Invite - displays your friend code; allows you to enter the friend code of another player; allows you to add a friend through Facebook; and gives the option to invite 3 random players to be friends every 12 hours.
  • Waiting - displays players you have invited to become friends with but who have not accepted your invite yet and players who have invited you to become friends but are waiting for you to accept their invitation.

The 'Friends' tab is the default open tab when you open the Friends List Window. Here your current Friends are listed.

Friends List favourites

Friends list (names removed). Favourite friends are listed first, in order of level. Friends who have connected their game to Facebook have a blue box in their entry displaying the name attached to that Facebook account (names removed).

Each Friend's entry initially contains some basic information about the Friend but can be used to view more detailed information. The Friend's name is listed at the top of their entry. Beneath this, in the centre of the box, the Friend's Game Level and Reputation Level is stated. If the Friend has connected their game to a Facebook account, then the name of that Facebook account will be displayed above their Game level in a blue box.

The Friend's Avatar is displayed in the center of the box, next to the Game and Reputation levels. Each Avatar shows the symbol for the friends Talent in the bottom left corner and a favorite star slot in the top right corner. If the Friend is marked as a favorite friend, the favorite star will be gold with a red background. If not, the star and background will both be grey.

Friends info box

A Friend's information box (name removed). The friend has the Joker Talent, represented by a green lightning bolt on the bottom left of their Avatar. The friend is currently marked as a Favourite to bring them to the front of the Friends list, so the Favourite star in the top right of their Avatar is coloured.

Tapping anywhere on the Avatar will bring up a detailed information box about that friend. This information box contains extra information about the player's game stats including how many friends they have; how many collections they have combined; how much energy they currently have and how much their maximum energy is; how many quests they have completed and how many puzzles total they have won.

The Friend's Avatar in the information box also shows their Talent symbol and favourite star, but here you can interact with them. Tapping on the Talent symbol will bring up a description of what that Talent does. Tapping on the favourite star will activate it or deactivate it if it is already active. This will add that Friend to your favourite list, which means that they will be listed at the start of your Friends list both in the Friends list window and in the list of Friends that appears at the bottom of the screen when you are visiting a friend. If multiple friends are listed as favourites, then they will appear at the beginning of your Friends list in the order of their game level, from highest to lowest.

The main entry for the Friend in the Friends List contains two buttons - 'Hire' and 'Visit'. Pressing Hire will hire that Friend for the next play of a Location or a Puzzle game. This will give you the benefit of their Talent for one play. Their entry will be highlighted for the duration of the time they are hired. You can only Hire each friend once per day, after which the 'Hire' button will become an 'Energize' button. Pressing this will give you the option of paying with Rubies to enable another Hire of that friend (see Using Darkwood Town Map to Hire Friends section).

Hint: If you Hire a friend and then fail the next play of a Location or Puzzle, the Hire will not be used. You can get still the benefit of the Hire during your next attempt.

Pressing Visit will bring you to your friends Darkwood Town map. Here you will see their unlocked Locations and Puzzles as well as their Trophy levels. You may receive a daily bonus of extra experience points and coins for visiting some friends. The number of Friends you can receive a Daily Bonus for is equal to your current reputation. For each friend you visit, you will be able to help them a certain number of times by charging their Locations, Puzzles, Trophies and Crafters (Fortune Teller; Blacksmith; Inventor). By charging your Friend's Locations, Puzzles, Trophies and Crafters you will give them the benefit of your Talent for the next play of that Location, Puzzle, Trophy, Crafter. For each Location you charge, you will receive a reputation point and some experience points, and coins. You may also receive a random Collection item. The number of charges you are allowed per friend is dependent on your current reputation level. There are game maximums of 10 charges per friend, and 100 visits to friends.

While visiting your Friend's map, you will notice a scrolling list of all your Friends at the bottom of the screen. Your Favorite Friends will be listed first, in order of their XP level. Next will be your remaining Friends, also listed in order of their XP level. At the end will be Players who have gone inactive or have not played in 14 days or longer. The current MyTona proceedure is to mark players who have not participated in the current event and the two pervious events (about 40 or more days total) as inactive and marked with a zz across their avatar on the list. This sometimes changes as a new bug or policy can at times remove the inactive marking. Even if a Player is inactive, you can still Hire them for their Talent and receive rewards for charging their maps (up to your daily limit, of course).

Friends Invite tab

The Invite tab shows your Friend Code, and allows you to Invite other players to be friends through their codes; through Facebook; or through a list of 6 randomly generated players that refreshes every 8 hours.

The Second Tab in the Friends List is the Invite Tab. The top left box in the Invite tab, called 'Invitation Code' gives your Friend Code. You can give this to other people so that they can invite you to be friends in the game. This code is permanent and will not change. This code is also your unique user ID number, and is used to identify your game to the game servers and the game developers. You should quote this code whenever you are contacting the game's Support.

You can also invite other players from the Invite Tab. There are three ways to do this. You can add a Friend code supplied to you by another player by pressing 'Enter' in the top middle box 'Invitation from a friend'. A keyboard will come up allowing you to enter their code. If the code is correct, the player will be added to your Waiting tab until they accept or reject your invitation to become a friend. You can also post your code to Facebook by pressing 'Invite' in either the 'Invitation Code' box or the 'Facebook' box. This will allow you to request your Facebook friends to invite you in their games. The bottom three boxes contain random players generated for you to invite as friends. Then they will appear in your Waiting Tab and you will have the choice of accepting or rejecting their friend invitation. You are allowed to invite 3 random friends every 12 hours. You can view the random players detailed game information by tapping on their Avatars. You can also visit their Darkwood Town maps by pressing the 'Visit' button, but you will not be able to charge their boards while you visit them as you are not yet Friends with them. You can invite the random player to become game Friends by pressing the 'Add' button. They will then go to your Waiting Tab until they either accept or reject your invitation.

Note: all players are included in the pool that the Random list is generated from. This includes people who have stopped playing the game. If you do not get a response from a Random player you have invited, it is possible that they have simply stopped playing the game.

The Final tab in the Friends List Window is the Waiting Tab. The waiting tab is the Friends waiting room. This is where all players you invite to become friends go while you wait for them to either accept or reject your Friend invitation. You cannot interact with people you have invited while they are in your Waiting Tab. If they accept your invitation they will automatically be added to your Friends List the next time you connect to the game's servers. If they reject your invitation they will simply disappear from the Waiting Tab, you will not be notified. If someone else invites you to become game friends, they will also appear in your Friends list. However, in this case you will be the one with options to Accept or Reject. If you Accept the invitation, the Friend will automatically be added to your Friends list. If you Reject the invitation, the player will disappear from your Waiting Tab (and you from theirs). They will not be notified.

Gifting (C)[]

Gifts accepting gifts

Gifts your friends have sent you will always show the image of the item (such as the two Threads in the picture). Thank you gifts will always show a picture of a wrapped gift box (such as the other four gifts in the picture).

The third sub-bubble (C) brings up the Gifting Window. There are four tabs in the Gifting Window:

  • Mine - displays your gifts waiting to be accepted
  • Friend's Wishes - displays your friends Wish list items
  • Send - allows you to send free gifts to your friends that do not come out of your inventory (you are only allowed to send 1 free gift to each friend each day)
  • Collection - allows you to send certain items from your inventory to your friends. These items will be taken from your inventory, and you can give more than one to each friend each day (up to a maximum of 10 items total)

The 'Mine' tab is the default open tab when you open the Gifting Window. This displays the gifts your friends have sent you. There are two types that you can receive from friends - real gifts and thank you gifts. Real gifts are gifts your friends actually send you, either from your Wishlist or other items they have chosen for you from either their free gift choices or from their inventory.

Gifts sending thank you gifts

After you Accept a gift from a Friend you will be able to 'Thank' the friend by sending them a Thank you gift.

These gifts will always show the image of the item your friend has sent you in the 'Mine' tab. There will a picture of your friends Avatar and an arrow pointing to the item indicating that they have sent the item to you. Underneath these there will be an 'Accept' button. When you press the Accept button, the picture of the Item will become a picture of a wrapped gift and the arrow will point at the Friend's Avatar instead. The 'Accept' button will turn into a 'Thank' button. This indicates that you can send a Thank you gift to your Friend, to thank them for the Item they have sent you. Pressing Thank will send the Thank you gift to your Friend.

Thank you gifts will always show a picture of a wrapped gift in your 'Mine' Tab. When you send your Friends gifts and they accept and thank you for the gift you will be sent these Thank You gifts automatically by the game. When you accept a Thank you gift, it will turn into a random item from a pool of Thank You Gift items. These generally contain low level Collection Items or Fixers. You will not be given the option to Thank a friend for sending you a thank you gift.

Gifting Friends wishes tab

The Friends' Wishes Tab. This lists items on your Friends' wishlists. Items with the grey 'Send' button cannot be sent to your friend (you do not have it or are not high enough level to send). The Thread and Clip (first and second item in bottom row) do not have numbers under the image as they are free gifts and will not come out of your inventory. The items with numbers under their pictures will come out of your inventory if sent to the friend, the number tells you how many you currently have in your inventory.

The Second Tab in the Gifts Window is the 'Friend's Wishes' tab. This shows you the items your friends have placed on their Wishlists, that they would most like to receive as Gifts from their Friends. Each Item on each Friends wishlist will get its own entry in the 'Friend's Wishes' tab, which can be quite confusing at first, particularly if all of your Friends have filled up the 5 slots in their Wishlists.

For each Wishlist item you will see a picture of the item.Tapping on the picture will bring up an information box about the item, which includes its purpose in the game. Underneath the picture of the item will be a 'Send' button. If this button is Green then you can send the item to your Friend. If it is Grey, then you cannot send the item to your friend - either it is an item that comes out of your inventory and you do not have any in your inventory or it is a free gift item that does not come out of your inventory but you are not yet at a high enough level to send the item. Either way, you cannot give it as a gift to your friends.

Currently as of version 1.17.0 of the game, 60 items are designated as 'Free Gifts' (see the Send tab to see the full list of free gifts). These gifts do not come out of your inventory when you send them to friends. You are limited to sending just one free gift to each Friend each day, up to a maximum of 50 friends. If your friend requests one of these items on their Wish List then you will see that the item has no number underneath it in the 'Friends' Wishes' tab. Pressing the Green send button will send the item to your friend. It will not take that item out of your inventory. If your friend has more than one Free gift on their Wish List, they each will have a separate entry in the 'Friends' Wishes' tab but you will only be able to send one of them to that Friend each day.

The rest of the items in the game that can be sent to Friends are not free gifts. Sending them to your friends will reduce the number in your inventory by 1. These items will have a number under them in the 'Friends' Wishes' Tab. This number represents how many of that item you currently have in your inventory.

Gifting Send tab

All items in the Send tab do not come out of your inventory when sent to your friends. Some items in the Send tab need to be unlocked at high game levels.

The third tab in the Gifts Window is the 'Send' Tab. This tab shows the 60 items that you can send to your friends as Free Gifts. These gifts do not come out of your inventory when you send them to your Friends. When you first start a game, you will only be able to send the first item in the 'Send' tab. As you progress through the Game Levels, you will unlock more and more items in the 'Send' tab that you can then send to your Friends for free. You can choose to unlock an item early by paying with Rubies. The price will be equal to the game level needed to unlock that item.

The 60 items in the 'Send' tab consists of 50 Fixers (needed to combine either Collections or Artifacts) and 10 Access Passes (needed to enter and play the premium locations. Any other Fixers in the game cannot be sent as free gifts but they still can be added to your Wish List. This means they will come out of your inventory when you send them to your Friends.

Gfiting selecting friends

Selecting which friends to send the Rune to as a Free Gift (not from Inventory) in 'Send' tab. The first two friends are selected, the last two are not.

To send a Free Gift to one or more of your Friends, first select the item by pressing the 'Send' button underneath the item. This will bring you to a second screen which will show you all of your friends that you have not already sent free gifts to that day. You can select one or more friends from this list. For every friend you select, the check mark next to their entry will turn green. Tapping that friend again will deselect that friend and the check mark will turn grey again. Once you have selected which friends to send that free gift to, press Send and they will all be sent the gift at once.

The final tab in the Gifting Window is the 'Collection' tab. This tab shows all the Collection Items in your inventory. You can send any of these items to your friends, but they will come out of your inventory. When you select an item from the 'Collection' tab you will be brought to a selection window just like in the 'Send' tab. Here you can select which Friends to send the item to.

Note: Only 50 of the Fixers (combining elements needed to combine Collections and Artifacts) in the game are included in the Free Gifts in the 'Send' tab. Although all other Fixers can be added to your Wish List, they cannot be sent as Free Gifts. Sending these items to your Friends from their Wish List will reduce the number in your inventory. This also means that it is possible to see items in the 'Friend's Wishes' tab that you cannot find in the 'Send' or 'Collection' tab. This is because these items can be added to your Wish List but they are not included in either criteria for those gift sending mechanisms (free gifts in Send tab or Collection items in Collection tab). So even though all the remaining Fixers are giftable items, the only way you can send them to your Friends is if they put them on their Wish Lists, and the only way your Friends can send them to you is if you put them on your Wish List.

Using the Darkwood Town Map to Hire Friends[]

As you play, icons for your friends showing their Avatars and Talent icon in a playing card shaped display, will float around the Darkwood Town map, leaving footprints behind them. As a shortcut to Hiring and Visiting Friends, you can tap on their floating icon on the map. This will bring up an information box about that friend, which shows their current game level, their current reputation level and their Talent, along with an explanation of what that Talent does.

Hire Friend from Map accept help

Tapping on a Friend's icon on your Darkwood Town map will bring up their Information box and allow you to Hire that Friend for your next play of a Location or Puzzle.

You can leave the information box and return to the Darkwood Town map by tapping the brown 'X' in the top right hand corner of the friend's information box.

You can Hire the friend by tapping on the green 'Accept help' button at the bottom of the friend's information box. When you press Hire, a confirmation window will appear asking if you are sure you want to Hire the friend or not. This confirmation window will remind you of the friends Talent and what that Talent does, and gives you the option to press 'OK' or press 'Cancel'. Pressing 'OK' will bring up a new bubble on the right hand side of your Darkwood Town Map showing your Friends Avatar and a symbol that represents their Talent. Tapping on this bubble will bring up an information box about the Hire, showing which friend you have Hired, what their Talent is, and what that Talent does.

When your friend is Hired, you will get the benefit of their Talent for one play of a location or a puzzle game. The bonus will count for the first play of a location or a puzzle after you Hire the Friend.

Hint: If you Hire a friend and then fail the next play of a Location or Puzzle, the Hire will not be used. You can get still the benefit of the Hire during your next attempt. It lasts until you succeed.

If you tap on the same Friend's floating icon on the map while they are currently Hired, it will bring up their information box again but instead of a 'Accept Help' button at the bottom of the information box there will simply be an 'OK' button.

If you tap on a different Friend's floating icon on the map, it will bring up their information box, and this will have an 'Accept Help' button. Tapping on this button will Hire that friend, or if you have reached you maximum concurrent hires, will replace your currently Hired friend with the new friend.

Hire Friend from Map energize

You can only Hire each Friend once per day, however you can choose to pay with Rubies to 'Energize' that friend, which will allow you to Hire them once more.

You can only Hire each friend once per day, however you can choose pay with Rubies to unlock that friend and allow you to re-hire them. After you have hired a friend, and played a location or puzzle to gain the benefit of their Talent, if you tap on that Friend's floating icon on the Darkwood Town map a new 'Energize' information box will appear for that friend. This new box will have an 'Energize' button instead of an 'Accept Help' button. Pressing 'Energize' will bring up a confirmation window that explains that "Your friend is dozing off - your friend is tired, give your friend a shot in the arm so you can get some more help" which shows the price of Energizing the friend in Rubies. Pressing 'OK' will remove the stated number of Rubies from your Inventory and bring you back to the Darkwood Town Map. Tapping on that Friends floating icon again will now bring up an 'Accept Help' information box and you will be able to Hire that friend one more time that day.

Alternatively, you can Hire your friends from the Friends Section of the game. In your Friend's list, every Friend has a small box showing their Name (top); their Avatar (left) which contains a small icon for their Talent; their Game and Reputation levels (right); and two green buttons at the bottom of the box. The left green button is 'Hire' and the right green button is 'Visit'. Pressing the 'Hire' button for a friend in your friends list will bring up a confirmation box reminding you of that friends Talent and and what benefit that Talent gives, and pressing okay in the confirmation box will Hire the friend. The friends entry will then be highlighted in the friends list for the duration of the time they are hired and a bubble will appear on the right hand side of your Darkwood Town map indicating which friend is Hired. After you have used the Hire for that friend, the 'Hire' button in their entry on your Friends list will become an 'Energize' button, which you can use to pay to be able to Hire that friend again using Rubies.

Version 1.12.5 Update Changes[]

Visit and Hire Friends Updated

You can now choose to either Visit or Hire Friends by tapping on their floating icon.

Version 1.12.5 of the game released on January 2017 streamlined and improved aspects of the Visiting and Gifting functions of the game. These changes include:

  • Visiting Friends shortcut. Tapping on a Friends floating icon on the Darkwood Town Map will up their information box which now has the Visit option added. You can now choose to either Visit or Hire Friends through this shortcut.
  • A Friend search option when sending gifts. You can now enter the name of the Friend you want to search for on the Send/Collections tabs of Gifts. It is located on the bottom left of the tab.
  • Wish Lists are prioritized for easier gifting. Wish listed items are now listed first when gifting a particular Fixer or Collection Item from the Send/Collections tabs. When choosing a Fixer/ Collection Item, if a Friend has wish listed that item, then there will be an "I need this" message after the Friend's name.
Gifting Updated

The new Friend search function and Wish List prioritizing of the Gifts tab.

For example, as illustrated in the image to the left, when choosing to gift the Fixer "Nut", Friends who have listed that particular Fixer on their Wish list or name will now be first in line to receive it.

Aside from these changes which makes gifting simpler and easier, the friends and gifting functions still will work the same as described above in the information.
